Q: When is registration?
A: Typically, registration runs late May through middle July with weigh-ins held in late July.
Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: Cost is $105 per player with a maximum of $190 for families with 2 or more siblings playing in White Bear Youth Football. There is a $10 late fee if registering after the last official weigh in period.
Q: Is there a registration refund policy?
A: There is no refund.
Q: How are the teams formed?
A: There are three grade levels: 4th/5th grade, 6th grade, and 7th grade. We base teams on the neighborhood concept which means we try to keep children in the same neighborhood on the same team. However, there are times when that is not possible due to the number and geographic location of the players signing up. Geographic boundaries can and usually do change every year. As long as your child is registered and the registration fee is paid before the end of the signup period, we will follow the above guidelines. If you register after the signup period ends, your child will be placed on the team in their grade level that has the fewest amount of players REGARDLESS OF GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION.
Q: Can specific teams or coaches be requested? Can we request to play with friends?
A: No, players must be placed based on above criteria.
Q: How old do you need to be in order to play for WBYF?
A: WBYF is for students going into 4th - 7th grade that either go to school or live in the White Bear Lake School District (ISD 624).
Q: When do practices start?
A: It is up to the individual head coaches to determine their practice schedule. Typically, practices start in early August. The head coach will contact you once the practice schedule has been set. WBYF urges no practices on the weekend.
Q: When are games played?
A: Games are scheduled Mondays through Wednesdays beginning in early September. Occasionally, weather related make-up games will be necessary. We will try to play those on Thursdays. We make every effort not to have any games on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. The exception to this is of course Super Sunday in late October.
Q: Is there a fund-raiser?
A: There will not be a fund-raiser in 2011. Our concession stand is open during every game; we ask that you support WBYF by patronizing our concession stand.
Q: Is there any traveling?
A: All regular season and playoff games are held at Podvin Park in White Bear Lake. Practices will be held at a location determined by your head coach. WBYF strongly urges that practices be held at a centrally located field for all your team members.
Q: What equipment am I required to supply?
A: 1) Certified white helmet with facemask & chinstrap, 2) Certified shoulder pads - weight appropriate, 3) White pants with complete pads, 4) Mouthguard (recommended it be attached to the helmet, 5) Shoes (football, soccer, or any tennis or running shoe is acceptable provided that there is no more than 1/2 inch protrusion from the sole). Removable 1/2 inch plastic cleats are acceptable. Metal cleats or longer than a 1/2 inch are forbidden, 6) Athletic supporter and cup are strongly recommended.
Q: What is ball carrier weight and how is it determined?
A: The term "ball-carrier" for purposes of weight limits includes all offensive backs, pass receivers (split ends and tight ends), six deep kickoff receivers, and deep punt receivers. All players have their weight certified during the registration process and ALL WEIGHTS ARE ROUNDED UP TO THE NEAREST POUND. Ball carrier weight limits for each grade level (five pounds above the average weight for each grade level) are established by the Board of Directors after registration is complete.
